Kellogg's Community Affairs Programme

Our Philosophy

Kellogg Company founder W.K. Kellogg was a strong believer in Corporate Social Responsibility. His personal mission "to help people help themselves" is still an integral part of Kellogg Company philosophy and shared values. These are:

  • To produce quality products and market them in a responsible manner.
  • To encourage Kellogg people to participate in community programmes and invest company resources - human and financial - in organisations that benefit the people in our communities.
  • To conduct our business in a manner that protects the environment and demonstrates good stewardship of the world’s natural resources.

Our Philosophy in Action

Kellogg’s is involved in a significant number of regional and national initiatives. However, we are particularly keen to support local activity, specifically in those urban areas close to our manufacturing sites and offices in Trafford Park (Manchester) and Wrexham.

In the UK, we focus the Community Affairs contribution of our Corporate Social Responsibility commitment on three major areas:

  1. Community Development
  2. Kellogg’s want to see prosperous and vibrant communities that genuinely play a role in shaping their own future. We are particularly keen to support the kind of community development work that leads to the inclusive regeneration of our towns and cities.

  3. Young People
  4. We believe that it is vital that young people are offered the best opportunities possible to contribute positively to their communities. We will support those organisations and initiatives that complement and enhance statutory learning provision and offer young people real chances in life.

  5. Well-being

We are aware that some sections of society can become excluded from the mainstream of community life. We want to work with those organisations that will provide the opportunity for disadvantaged people to take an active and fulfilling role in their communities.

Staff Time

Kellogg’s Community affairs staff are involved with a large number of organisations that focus on Community Development, Young People, and Well-being. The majority of these organisations are based in the Manchester and Wrexham areas, although elsewhere Kellogg staff are involved in the appropriate regional and national organisations. This involvement is based on Board and Committee membership or involvement on working groups. For example, we are on the Board of the Greater Manchester Learning and Skills Council.

These are the main ways that Kellogg’s build lasting relationships with partner organisations, where most of our work is done and most of our money is invested. Because of these long-term commitments, we do not seek actively to encourage new requests for major funding. However, certain organisations might feel, having read this information that they meet our long-term partnership and investment aims. If this is the case write an introductory letter of enquiry to us at the address below, rather than submit a formal application.

The Kellogg Community Donations Fund

This fund is open to new requests and is aimed at supporting grass roots community organisations. The average donation is around £250 and the emphasis is on getting the donation to the applicant as quickly as possible. The Donations Committee meets frequently to ensure a quick turnaround of applications. Donations can be used to pay for things like small capital purchases, to buy in professional or specialist help, to pay for training, or generally to help small organisations make things happen in their community. This fund is focused on organisations that deliver the kind of work outlined above, and are based in the Manchester and Wrexham areas particularly Old Trafford, Moss Side, Hulme and Wythenshawe.

NB: Kellogg’s does not provide funding for:

  • Arts-based activities,
  • circular appeals,
  • individuals,
  • denominational appeals,
  • advertising in brochures or souvenir programmes.

You can make an application by email to: community.affairs@kellogg.com

or in writing to:

Kellogg Community Affairs Department
Kellogg Marketing and Sales Company Limited
The Kellogg Building
Talbot Road
MANCHESTER
M16 0PU

Whichever method you choose, your application should extend to about one side of text only, and it should include the following information:

  • a brief description of your organisation,
  • a brief description of how you would spend the donation,
  • who the donation will benefit, e.g., teenagers, disabled people, elderly people, or who?
  • where the putative beneficiaries live, e.g., Manchester, Wrexham or if appropriate, in a specific location, e.g., Old Trafford,
  • the name of the organisation the cheque should be payable to (not an individual).

Owing to the large number of applications that we receive, we are unable to explain our decisions or provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants. However, all applicants who are unsuccessful will receive a response within a few weeks.
