Trafford Volunteer Bureau

The Trafford Council for Voluntary Service and Trafford Volunteer Bureau is a partnership that promotes organisations and individuals in voluntary activity. The Bureau is an independent charity run by volunteers for volunteers. Local government does not fund us. Therefore, we have a greater sense of impartiality and a more flexible approach. We advertise volunteer positions on local radio, leaflets, and on V-BASE (national database). We organise promotional events and attend events that other network members organise. In addition, we offer an individual presentation to voluntary organisations or groups that may be interested in volunteering.

Mission Statement

To promote, support, and develop all aspects of volunteering.

What can the Bureau offer the individual?

The Bureau offers individuals advice and provides a placement service for those people interested in becoming a volunteer. We can put potential volunteers in touch with many types of community or voluntary organisations, which involve volunteers. Although the Bureau is not responsible for a person placed in an organisation, we are happy to support the individual if they have difficulties within their placement.

What can the Bureau offer an organisation?

The Bureau offers advice, training and support to organisations that seek volunteer help. We try to ensure that volunteers are not discriminated against and are supported in their volunteer activity. Staff ensures good practice when recruiting and involving volunteers. We can help to find ways of funding volunteer expenses.

The Bureau does not interview for organisations, obtain references or complete a police check on volunteers. We only link an individual to an organisation. It is the organisations responsibility to vet prospective volunteers.

National Association of Volunteer Bureaux (NAVB)

The Trafford Volunteer Bureau is a member of the National Association of Volunteer Bureaux. NAVB represents and supports a national network of over 4,000 Volunteer Bureaux in branches throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland. An annual Volunteer Bureaux Directory is published by NAVB as well as promotional leaflets and a good practice booklet for people thinking about voluntary work.
