Who We Are

Trafford Centre for Independent Living was set up in early 2011 by Trafford Council, in partnership with Breakthrough UK, to provide a user-led group to meet the needs to deaf and disabled Trafford residents.

Our aim is to support independent living for deaf and disabled people throughout the borough of Trafford.

We believe that information, advice and advocacy are at the heart of independent living, and our aim is to become a community hub for disabled people locally, offering services, support, groups and classes.

Meet the Team

Kevin Taylor

Kevin is Interim Manager at Trafford CIL and brings with him over a decade of experience in the sector. Kevin is the innovative heart of Trafford CIL and has been working tirelessly to improve and refine our services during his secondment with us.

Gary Timperley

Recently married, Gary is our bubbly Admin and Finance Manager. Responsible for the purse-strings at the CIL, Gary is the man who makes everything run smoothly, and handles everything financial at the centre. He is the key man for room bookings, invoicing and payroll enquiries.

Matthew Barnes

Having joined the Trafford CIL family in August 2011, Matthew has been working almost non-stop ever since. He's our Information and Communications Officer, and so handles everything from our Information Service to marketing and promotions, and most centre visitors know him as that blur that sometimes whizzes past as he races from one meeting to another.

Charlotte Roberts

Although the youngest member of the team, Charlotte is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with throughout Trafford. Her tireless work for her brokerage clients hasn't gone unnoticed, and she is also involved in brokerage forums and other key local projects. And, she's also learning to play the guitar.

Judy Sutherland

An Advocate specialising in Learning Disabilities, Judy is constantly in-demand at the centre. Whether it's other staff picking her brains for nuggets of knowledge or external agencies and organisations calling for her advice, it's a wonder she ever gets any work done. But, somehow, she manages, and she does a fine job of it, too.

Sue Hopwood

Sue works alongside Judy as an Advocate and is absolutely passionate about getting the very best for her clients. Willing to go well above and beyond the call of duty, Sue is by far the most persuasive member of our team and usually gets the results she wants, which makes her clients very happy indeed.
